Burlesque dance is made up of a chorus as well as solo dances, plus bawdy, slapstick skits and songs. Burlesque comes from the Italian word meaning “mockery.” Historically, it was used to refer to an array of entertainment that used caricature, ridicule, and distortion. Today it is a fun celebration of characters portrayed through a musical theatre style of dance.
